Cats and chocolate don't mix. Chocolate contains theobromine, a compound that is toxic to cats. What makes it worse is how theobromine affects a cat's body. It can cause a rapid heartbeat, seizures, tremors and death if enough chocolate is consumed. If you think your cat has eaten too much chocolate or any other potentially toxic substance, take him or her to a veterinarian immediately for treatment.
