Cats who have longer hair than other breeds may not produce as much dander as those with shorter fur. One problem with longhaired cats is that they groom themselves extensively--often using their claws to pull out any loose hair on their coat. This creates more allergens in the air for those around them. The truth is, there's no such thing as a hypoallergenic animal for humans. It's the individual's allergies that determine whether they will be affected by a particular animal or not. Consult a professional before adopting a domestic longhair cat.
